Hello world, I am coming to you from a Coronavirus free Nevis. After two months of no cases, we are finally out of lockdown, and free to carry on as normal (however, with masks and sanitizer in abundance). Our tiny island has been able to achieve so much, with a dedicated government and a cautious population, we are now reaping the benefits and preparing to open up to the world and seeing new guests enjoy our fabulous hotel and island.
During my time in the ‘lockdown world’ I discovered so many new and exciting things about not only the Mount Nevis Hotel, but also about the island. Such as Windward beach being the perfect spot to watch the sunrise whilst eating coconut muffins and drinking tea; lobster hunting off the shore to recreate the much missed lobster sandwiches from the Golden Rock Inn, and enjoying a hike most days down to a hidden beach. Although our hours at the beach were limited between 5-9am, the desperation to get out of the house drove me to make the most of those short few hours.
It wasn’t only the beach that allowed that perfect respite from quarantine and lockdown, I was also able to enjoy special, socially distanced yoga that our own Mount Nevis Hotel put on towards the end of the restrictions. Being able to reconnect with my body whilst in such an open natural space almost reset all stress about the current pandemic. Mount Nevis is lucky to be situated in such a large and undisturbed space that activities such as this one were able to happen.
And it is not only during lockdown that my little island shone with pride, we are now able to open all restaurants and bars and operate within the guidelines given by the government. Sunset drinks at the Mount Nevis Hotel bar takes the stress of Coronavirus away and added a little socially safe interaction back into our lives, as they operated seamlessly. Whilst being socially distanced, all guests enjoyed their drinks, were able to happily chat with one another and rejoice at the end of the hardships. My worry of safety was put to the back of my mind as the bar staff were so conscientious about the necessary precautions.
All in all, Nevis, and the hotel, have performed above and beyond and it has resulted in a Coronavirus free island. Now the only thing left to do, is to open our borders so you can enjoy these things I have discovered, for yourselves. Secluded, quiet beaches are our forte, and the hotel has open spaces in abundance for a stress-free, inclusive as you want it to be, vacation. Nevis, and I, are waiting for you.
